Doornboom River cottage is situated about 20 km from Hopefield, West Coast, on the banks of the beautiful Berg River. This fully equipped restored cottage is part of a proud family legacy and offer guests a true farm life experience in a tranquil setting with magnificent views.
A wonderful breakaway place for Nature lovers, Birders, Mountain bikers, hikers, families or just friends in need of a place to breathe.

Spacious garden
Our cottage has a spacious and safe water wise seasonal garden, an ideal place for the children to play and explore
River pools
The Berg river levels are subject to seasonal change, but natural pools are great swimming places in summer (swimming at own risk)
WiFi Free Zone
We are a proudly Wifi free zone, and we continue to encourage people to disconnect from their devices and reconnect to Nature.

Braai Facilities

Our outside braai area offers and incredible view of the river from the hill, the best sunset views and a comfortable large "stoep" area.

Birdwatching
The Berg river is teaming with bird life, and our farm offers quiet spaces for excellent birding.
Expect to see: African Fish Eagles, Pied Kingfishers, Cape Robin-chats, Cape Bulbul, Cape white-eyed Malachites, Sunbirds, Cape Sparrows, African Hoopoe, Hadeda, Ibis, Sacred Ibis, Cattle egret, Grey Herron and many more!
Flower Walks
August to November is Flower season, and our farm is a splendid carpet of beautiful wild flowers. Safe walking and exploring is encouraged with longer distances available for training or serious hikers.

Fishing

Bring your fishing gear along and try your hand at fishing in the Berg River

Mountain Biking
​
Our well-maintained farm roads offer cyclists a great and safe route to cycle and explore on and around the farm. For the more experienced mountain bikers, the degree of difficulty can be adapted to offer interesting new challenges!

Working farm experience
​
As we are a working sheep and wheat farm, special arrangements can be made when booking, to get first hand experience alongside the farmer for those interested in farming activities.

Hiking
Feel free to explore the farm at your own leisure with a sunrise or sunset walk and for those, serious about exercising, routes vary from 6 km round trip to up to 23 km in the direction of Aurora town.
Nature Photography
Be sure to bring along your camera for the best in Nature photography moments! Personal photography tutoring available on request and quoted separately.
